Beat My Five: For the Kids

Am I old enough to call teenagers or college graduate “kids”? Pero this entry is for my brothers and sisters, na just graduated at ngayon is facing one the scariest stages of their life (at least for regular performing students), the employment stage. There are so many reasons to be at least nervous, after graduating. But it will be a blessing and a learning experience of a kick ass kind. I am very sure, na dito sa Metro Manila, 50% ng Graduates sa BPO unang mag aapply. PLEASE DON’T be embarrass napakaganda at napakasayang magtrabaho sa ganitong industry. Ako na 5 years na nag ttrabaho dito, will tell you that they are insecure and just plainly jealous on what you can achieve. BUT please don’t misunderstood me, hindi ito madali, WALANG TRABAHONG MADALI. And you need to be on your toes every hour of every day. Pero even before we look towards your successful future and be one of us, kaylangan mo munang mag apply at pumasa. So just a few tips, from a Calls Center Representative, Technical Representative, HR Admin Staff/Recruiter Specialist, at Sales Supervisor. YES! I’ve been around. Well it’s up to you, but kung bago ka stage na ito ng buhay mo, every little information helps.

BEAT MY FIVE: For the Kids

1. Get Organize: Since alam mo nang mag Facebook, at tadtad na ng mga hubad na picture mo ang account mo. Then I think pwede mo narin i consider na gamitin ang Internet to help you out sa paghahanap mo ng trabaho. Sign up right away sa mga famous job finder website, at sa kahit dalawang pinaka malaking website (jobstreet.com / jobsdb.com) Don’t be afraid, mas delikado pa ung mga social networking sites at mga porn sites na tinatangkilik mo than sa mga sites na ito. Create a proper email address din, na para lang sa application mo this time and sa future. Para mo nang awa gawin mo namang promal ang email address na ilalagay mo at gagawin mo. mydickisbiggerthanthebothofyoucombine@yahoo.com doesn’t appeal to be enticing sa mga employer. Use your name plus year of birth, pwede na un.

After mong makapag sign up, you’ll know the difference. Marami kang pwedeng maapplyan sa loob lang ng ilang minuto, sa ibat ibang lugar pati bansa (saves time and money). May advance search din kung saan ma ddetalye mo and tailor fit it to what you are looking for. (Salary, location, job description.) So besides securing your documents and other school certificates, one way to organize and prepare is to sign up online. Ikaw pa ang tatawagan at hahanapin.

2. Do a bit of research – So after mong matawagan o malaman kung saan magaapply, you have to do a little research. I’m not saying that you exhaust all effort at pagurin ang sarili mo. This would just take 30 minutes at most. BUT ano ba ang dapat mo  iresearch after mong mahanap ang mga prospects mo.

First is to find some information about the company na pag aapplyan mo. Not only na makakasigurado ka na hindi ka magkakaproblema sa kanila, pero it will help you na makasagot sa mga tanong sa interview. Katulad ng “Why did you apply in this company?” If you did your research and you answered something like, “I decided to apply in this company because as I am doing my research and looking at your website, “I saw that your number one priority are your employees, and I really want to be in the company that has that employee first mentality.” Magkakaroon kaagad ng idea ang interviewer that you know what you’re doing, you are smart and masipag na tao dahil nag research ka pa talaga.

Second is to know the location and how to get there on time and with less effort. Kung may appointment mas magandang at least 30 minutes kang maaga sa appointment time mo. And since you are very new sa ganitong pagkakataon, siguradong kinakabahan ka pa.

3. Look Human – In any BPO industry, lalo na sa Metro Manila. You don’t need na mag formal attire. I am not saying na gawin mo din un, because for me, at sa experience ko as a recruiter, mahalaga din sa akin ang character. For the boys, simpleng shirt with collar lang na naka slacks syempre with leather shoes will do. Sa Ladies hindi rin kaylangan naka dress o super formal as long hindi naman jeans pwede na rin. Not to much make up sa mga ladies, basta mukang fresh lang ok na.

At para magmuka karing tao kaylangan mo ring magmukhang hindi nawawala, and for you to do that, kaylangan mo magtanong.

  • Makipag usap ka sa sarili mo – OO yun ang kaylangan mong gawin, everyday spend at most 10 minutes (maybe before you go to sleep) talk to yourself in English. Explain or summarize what happened thru out the day. If you can explain the things you saw, heard or felt, do it. You will gain confidence and increase your skills in describing odd things and or experience.
Ganun din ang dapat mong gawin, although you wont be able to speak in perfect formal English, but at least matuto kang maging conversational. SO watch movies, series, read articles or listen to music (wag lang hiphop or rap) na English.

Katulad ng “Tell me somehing about yourself” etc. You can search these questions or “google” it. Mabibigyan ka HINDI NG SAGOT pero on the best way to answer those questions.

Remember this: Hebrews 13:6 “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

Tao lang sila so RELAX if you have god with you and you prepared enough there is nothing to be afraid of. Fear is a choice.

  1. hey thanks for this post and also for following my blog.

I definitely agree with your post about the BPO industry with salary at par sa sweldo (or minsan mas malaki pa) ng nag-abroad.

In fact, my Tito who have been an OFW for 10 yrs advised me, kung kumikita ka rin lang ng ganyan kalaki, di mo na kailangan mag-abroad.

Turns out nagdilang-anghel sya, andito ako ngayon sa Malaysia for a long term assignment.

    Lord bless!
